Lisa's Story

Hometown: Youngstown, OH

Lisa’s enthusiasm for her studies in social work is contagious. “There is always something exciting going on at the School of Social Work. Students have access to a wide variety of professional development seminars, social and networking events for students and faculty, and lectures delivered by world-class social justice advocates and scholars.”

When Lisa was applying to graduate programs, a good quality of life as a student in a new city was an important consideration. “Baltimore is a great place to be student. It’s an affordable city, especially for those of us on student budgets. Students not only have access to all that Baltimore has to offer, but also Annapolis, Washington, Philadelphia, and New York City are all within close proximity.”

When Lisa has free time, she loves to explore Baltimore. On Saturday afternoons, she likes to shop for fresh produce at Lexington Market and pick up Faidley’s crab cakes—what many say is the best crab cake in Baltimore. After exploring one of the many hiking trails in and around Baltimore, Lisa’s favorite destination is Dominion Ice Cream in Charles Village. “It’s so delicious you could spend an entire afternoon there. The cardamom ice cream is fantastic.”
