Michael's Story

Hometown: Sterling, VA

Michael appreciates UMBC’s suburban campus. However, when he wants to take in the culture and atmosphere of a big city, Baltimore is just minutes away.  “Baltimore has so much to offer, and Washington and Philadelphia are close by for a day or weekend adventure.”

The summer after his freshman year, Michael interned with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He worked full time in a lab doing research on prostate inflammation. He went on to present his research at a national conference and receive an award. The internship also gave him the opportunity to really spend some time in Baltimore.

Two of Michael’s all-time favorite restaurants in Baltimore are the Papermoon Diner and Indigma. The Papermoon Diner is a great place to go for a late-night snack. “They have some interesting décor—the whole experience is unique and enjoyable.” Indigma, an Indian restaurant, is a great place to spend an afternoon with friends. “The food and atmosphere are fantastic.”
