"Collegetown LeaderShape introduced me to different perspectives, and I even changed my views on some major things."
La'el Richards
Stevenson University
Hometown: Preston, MD

La'el 's Story

“Collegetown LeaderShape has played a major role in my life,” says La’el. Before LeaderShape, La’el wanted to be more involved in her community, but she was unsure of how to get started. LeaderShape gave her the support, perspective, and encouragement she needed to jump in.

Together with her family cluster, La’el volunteered with Meals on Wheels, preparing meals. “I had the best time ever! I learned not to take things for granted—to appreciate the life I have.”

Closer to home, La’el began noticing that some of her classmates were skipping meals just to stay in college. “I feel like college kids are sometimes overlooked when it comes to certain problems,” says La’el. Her vision is to start a food pantry for college students, beginning with students on her own campus.
