The end of the semester is here, but so are the holidays!

Well, it’s official – winter is here; and with it comes the stress of final exams, the frantic rush of last-minute group projects, and the magic of the holiday season!  Take a study break, get off campus, and enjoy some of Baltimore’s more charming winter activities:

Events & Attractions

Washington Monument Lighting  

A monumental occasion, indeed! The Downtown Partnership Monument Lighting is

Thursday, December 1.  The evening will be filled with local vendors, live entertainment, and a spectacular laser lights display and firework show.

The Miracle on 34th Street Hampden Lights  and the Mayor’s Christmas Parade 

Head to Hampden any day of the week (From dusk – 11pm) during the month of December and take in the spectacular display of lights on the 34th Street.  And on Sunday, December 4, you can catch the Mayor’s Christmas Parade!  If you’re lucky you may even get to see the big man himself; word on the street is Jolly Old Saint Nick will make an appearance.

Reginald F. Lewis Museum Kwanzaa Celebration 

This annual celebration will feature an African fashion show, Kwanzaa craft workshops, live music, and a performance by Sankofa Dance Theater.

Baltimore Chanukah Festival 

Celebrate the Festival of Lights with live music, dancing, a parade, and more!  The party kicks off on the first day of Chanukah with the grand lighting of Esther Ann Menorah (the largest Menorah in the statestanding at 30 feet tall) at 4:30pm.

WHEN: Sunday, December 25, 2016  2:00pm – 6:00pm

Pandora Ice Rink

Practice your double and triple axels (or do shaky, slow laps like the rest of us) at the Pandora Ice Rink in the Inner Harbor. 

WHEN: Friday, November 11 - Monday, January 16, 2016

Price: $10 admission fee; $4 skate rental

New Year’s Eve Spectacular 

Ring in the New Year with the best celebration in Baltimore!  Enjoy live music and a specular fireworks display over the water with family and friends.  The Pandora Ice Rink will also be open until 12:30am for all those who wish to skate right into 2017 (bundle up!).

MICA Art Market 

‘Tis the season for gift giving! Here’s your chance to pick up that perfect present for your mom, your great uncle, your favorite barista, ANYONE (yourself included).  The MICA Art Market will feature the work of nearly 300 MICA students, alumni, faculty and staff with everything from toys and t-shirts to sculptures and stationery.

Charm City Craft Mafia –Holiday Heap and Last Stop Hops & Shop

The Charm City Craft Mafia promotes handmade wares in Baltimore, and every year hosts two huge craft shows – Holiday Heap and Last Stop Hops & Shop.  These showcases are your chance to peruse the works of over fifty local vendors and pick out gifts for everyone on your list. 

WHEN: Holiday Heap – Saturday, December 10, 2016 10:00am – 5:00pm; Last Stop Hops & Shop – Thursday, December 15, 2016 5:00pm – 9:00pm

Christmas Village 

West Shore Park in the Inner Harbor will be transformed into a traditional German Christmas Market with over 50 vendors selling European crafts, jewelry, and holiday gifts. Look for special holiday-themed programming every weekend.
