MICA’s 2,200 students come from 48 states and 53 foreign countries and connect with the nation and the world through 40 study abroad programs and 34 domestic mobility programs.
Urban environments uniquely offer opportunities for jobs, internships, community-based and industry-based learning experiences in art and design, as well as a rich array of visual and performing arts and culture venues – all of which MICA students want in a city.
MICA is an independent, non-profit college with the single purpose of educating artists, designers, illustrators, animators, filmmakers, architects, art educators, art historians, and business leaders in the arts. At MICA, the artist is the rule, not the exception.
MICA is ranked in the top 10 MFA programs in the visual arts: 3rd in Graphic Design; 5th in Painting/Drawing by U.S. News and World Report. In each of the last seven years, MICA has been listed as a Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars among specialty schools by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
MICA’s academic program is expansive, rigorous, and flexible – supporting each student’s career goals while encouraging students to explore unexpected avenues in the pursuit of their creative vision. Curricular offerings in the undergraduate and graduate programs range from illustration to information visualization, from curatorial studies to community arts, from fine arts to filmmaking, from drawing to design, and from art history to animation. The innovative curriculum combines intensive studio and rigorous liberal arts coursework with professional and real-world experiences relevant to artists and designers.
