UMB spans 72 acres in downtown Baltimore, with 7.5 million gross square feet of space in 69 buildings. Nearly 6,800 students are enrolled at UMB, and 7,400 people are employed here.
UMB embraces its Baltimore neighborhood with such initiatives as structured mentoring for West Baltimore middle school and high school students in CURE Scholars and the UMB Community Engagement Center, where the university provides services to nearby residents and collaborates with them in advocacy projects. UMB President Jay A. Perman, MD, is the outgoing chair of the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and co-chair of the UniverCity Partnership alongside Baltimore’s mayor.
