Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Collegetown and Gown Tour?

The Collegetown and Gown Tour introduces college counselors to Baltimore area institutions, showcases Baltimore City and County as top college destinations and supports counselors as they advise their students. This tour is the only program of its kind that features both public and private Maryland institutions. Since its inception in 2017, the tour has welcomed over 300 counselors from 32 states and 3 countries.

What does each campus visit look like?

Each campus is different, meaning each campus visit will be different but counselors can expect an informative, interactive experience that highlights each campus' unique identity as well as the many elements of the region that make Baltimore a great college town. One guarantee is you will definitely get your steps in! While some campuses are bigger than others, each campus visit will include a walking tour so please be prepared to walk, a lot. Each campus will also provide a meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner). Please let us know in advance should you require any accommodations.

How long is the Collegetown and Gown Tour?

Programming will start at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 14, so we encourage all participants to arrive on Sunday. Programming will end in the late afternoon on Thursday, November 17.

Do I have to stay for the whole 4 days?

Yes! Our admissions partners work hard to prepare an amazing visit experience for you and coordinate logistics for months with students, faculty and staff to showcase their campus. We ask that you book travel to arrive in Baltimore before 8:00 a.m. on Monday and depart Baltimore after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Are the hotel rooms be single or double occupancy?

Single occupancy.

How do I get to the hotel?

There is no hotel shuttle from BWI or Penn Station, so airport or train transportation will be on your own. A roster will be sent in advance in case participants would like to coordinate ride shares.

What should I bring?

Dress casually and bring comfortable shoes! The weather in Maryland in November can be fickle, so it's best to dress in layers. Please also bring your energy and questions!

How much is it to participate?

A $60 registration fee is required.

Can I pick and choose which campuses to visit? Or can my colleague and I share the registration fee and split up the schools on the tour?

No. Your registration is intended for you alone and we expect all attendees to participate in all 10 campus visits.

How do I sign up?

If you're interested in joining us in Baltimore this fall, please fill out the interest form to be added to the interest list. A select group will be invited to register this summer. We typically have a group of 30-35 participants.

I want to participate, but can't make it to Baltimore. Are there any other options for me?

Yes! We will offer a virtual Collegetown and Gown Tour option in February 2023. Participation in the virtual program is optional and open to all counselors or anyone interested in learning about our campuses and Baltimore.
