Internship Responsibilities
The mission at the Office of BioHealth and Life Sciences is, in part, to help the life science industry in Maryland grow by helping them find strategic partners, a talented workforce, and by connecting them to our state’s financial programs. To maximize our efficiency in creating business-to-business connections, we have compiled a database of the state’s biotechnology industry. The database can also be analyzed to find trends in our sector, thereby refining our strategy for out-of-state business recruitment, direct foreign investment, and B2B connections within our state. Research into our local industry is required in order to make the database a better tool. With the Department of Commerce’s resources, market research will be the internship’s main objective. At the end of the project, longitudinal and geographical data will provide insight into our industry’s geographical and biotechnical growth. These data will also serve as a recruitment tool to attract businesses to Maryland. At times, participation in meetings with stakeholders will be required, which will serve as an opportunity to learn how the Department of Commerce serves as a focal point for the private sector, academia and the government.
