Communications Intern

Internship Responsibilities

Through our internship program, we are looking for talented young people passionate about helping reduce and address trauma in Baltimore, and support a movement pursuing a racially, socially, and economically just and thriving Baltimore for all.  This will be an opportunity to work in Baltimore and learn pieces of what it’s like to work at a nonprofit as well as execute multiple initiatives and events.

Interns will work closely with the Healing City Baltimore Coordinator.  We are asking for a minimum of 8 hours per week, and are flexible on what days and times for the right candidate though it would be ideal if they are available Tuesday from 7-8 pm, and Thursday from 4-5 pm for community meetings, with other meetings as scheduled. Positions can start as early as September and will run through March, with the possibility for extensions.  This position is currently unpaid, but we would like to be able to coordinate and offer Internship credit. 

The Communications Intern will work with staff and volunteers on digital, promotional, and event media. The Communications Intern will help develop local communication initiatives and social media content, and assist in the creation of Healing City Baltimore materials. The focus will be primarily on supporting the Healing City Summit in March of 2022, but would also support the general needs of Healing City Baltimore on various social media platforms.

  • Assist with development of creative concepts and marketing strategies for promoting the work of Healing City

  • Develop content for promotional materials including a monthly electronic newsletters and weekly social media 

  • Help create and implement a monthly communications calendar

  • Help create and implement a communications calendar leading up the Healing City Summit

  • Produce Facebook Live Conversations 

  • Help draft press releases and reach out for event marketing

  • Community management of online and offline supporters

  • Manage photo and video content, take photos at events

Skill Set Required

  • Possess skills at initiating innovative ideas and judging correctly what will appeal to target audiences

  • Exceptional writing ability and experience with writing stories

  • Ability to collect and synthesize information from diverse sources

  • Must be creative & resourceful

  • Must be able to multitask

  • Experience with using social media: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

  • Skills with Powerpoint/Keynote, Photoshop, iMovie, OBS, Vimeo, Adobe Premiere and Illustrator and are extremely useful but not necessary
