Education Evaluation Internship

Internship Responsibilities

Our Education Department is seeking an Intern to assist with collecting and analyzing data. The Intern will work with staff to administer an evaluation system to determine the success of  certain educational initiatives related to visitors and their experiences throughout our galleries. They will present their reporting to BMA staff and aid in developing future evaluation projects. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Engage with visitors on the weekend (limited interactions will be in place as we continue to evaluate our social distancing policies)

  • Collect, analyze, and report on visitor data

  • Review audience engagement literature across the museum sector

  • Assist with creating additional evaluation projects
     

Skill Set Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer service experience

  • Strong research skills

  • Some experience with databases

  • Qualitative or quantitative analysis is a plus

  • All majors are encouraged to apply. Those studying the arts should have an interest in statistics and those studying mathematics/statistics should have an interest in the arts 

 

Proposed Schedule

  • This position will be performed as a hybrid structure with some onsite work (pending BMA policies and guidelines this Summer).

  • A combination of Weekend and Weekday work schedule

Eligibility

Applicants must fulfill one of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a Graduate or Undergraduate Program

  • Recent graduate from an accredited program (within 5 years)

  • PhD candidate 

Commitment

  • Most positions will meet 1-3 days per week*

  • Selected candidates will be expected to start in September 2020

  • If you require a specific number of hours or are planning to do this internship for credit, please state your requirements in your cover letter

* This time is subject to change depending on the unique schedule that will be created with each selected candidate.

*Please note that each position is unique and will either be a virtual or hybrid structure

BMA Internship Program Stipends

To promote our mission and DEAI initiatives, all BMA Interns are awarded a $750 stipend.

 

The Joshua Johnson Council Stipends

Through generous support from our Joshua Johnson Council, we are able to offer 2 stipends aimed at increasing participation of minority groups who are underrepresented in the fields of museum programming and administration. If you are interested in applying for a JJC Stipend, please indicate this clearly in your cover letter. The two candidates selected to receive a JJC stipend ($1000/ each) will be notified.  

 

Please note that if you are awarded a JJC Stipend, you are not eligible for a $750 BMA Internship Program stipend.

Q: May I apply for more than one open Internship opportunity?

A: Yes, you may apply for up to two open positions. Please reference them in your Cover Letter. You may also submit 2 separate cover letters (one for each position).

 

Q: What should I include in my Cover Letter/Letter of Intent?

A: Please include specific references to the position(s) for which you are applying and why you are interested in that department(s). It’s best to list experiences/classes that relate to the position(s). Also, please note if you are doing this Internship for credit.  

 

Q: Should my Letter of Recommendation be sent separately or with my other materials?

                A: Either way is fine!

About The Baltimore Museum of Art

The Baltimore Museum of Art is home to an internationally renowned collection of 19th-century, modern, and contemporary art. Founded in 1914 with a single painting, the BMA today has 90,000 works of art—including the largest holding of works by Henri Matisse in the world.
