Service Excellence Intern

Internship Responsibilities

AAMC is looking for a qualified intern to join our Quality and Patient Safety team within the Service Excellence Department. Improving the patient experience is essential to AAMC’s commitment as a patient and family centered organization, therefore it is a top priority for the Quality and Patient Safety team to enhance patient experience within the hospital. The team monitors and compares quality of care measures and other health care standards through federal and state programs.

Purpose of this Internship

  • Understand the organization and operations of AAMC  through activities such as orientations, seminars, trainings, attendance at meetings with organizational personnel, and rotation through all of  the hospital’s departments
  • Develop leadership and professional skills through observations of different management styles, discussions of decision-making practices and interactions with organizational personnel
  • Provide assistance on routine tasks and special projects to advance knowledge and skills in healthcare administration, specifically regarding patient experience
  • Engage in the daily activities of the Service Excellence team and gain real-world experience while making a difference in the lives of patients and their families

Skill Set Required

- Currently pursuing a degree or post grad in the healthcare field

- Strong interpersonal skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas

- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

- Highly-motivated pre-professional with a positive attitude

- Ability to take direction and multi-task

- Comfortable talking to a variety of hospital personnel, from front line staff to upper level leadership, as well as patients and their families

- Reliability & commitment to at least 8 hours a week (may work up to 40 hours a week)

  • Assist in designing and implementing specific projects that connects the interest of the intern and the needs of the hospital
  • Attend various meetings with all types of hospital personnel and record notes
  • Conduct research for best improvements using hospital databases
  • Track and analyze patient satisfaction data and feedback using hospital databases
  • Clinical unit observations and rounding
  • Patient shadowing to improve patient experience
  • Attend various hospital committee events, seminars and educational programs
  • Assist with designing reports and presentations using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Excel
