Underwriting Intern - Commercial Insurance

Internship Responsibilities

Westminster American Insurance Company is an A-rated commercial Property & Casualty carrier located in Owings Mills, Maryland. We were recently designated one of Maryland’s Best Employers, and are seeking an Underwriting Intern for Summer 2021.

• Review all incoming applications and endorsements and refer to the appropriate person

• Process incoming endorsement requests

• Order and review loss control inspections. Follow up when needed.

• Process policy quotes as directed by Underwriters

• Review and approve policy endorsement requests within guidelines

• Review and approve cancellation requests

• Handle special assignments as needed.

• Maintain a solid understanding of systems, workflows, guidelines for assigned product lines and other materials in order to fulfill work assignments.

Skill Set Required

• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills

• Must have excellent problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• Ability to use sound judgment and make decisions within underwriting guidelines

• Must be willing to work within a team environment and independently when needed

• Ability to manage multiple tasks

• Proficient computer skills

• Attention to detail.
