Internship Site: Under Armour
What’s it like to bump elbows with top athletes and design clothes seen at ballparks and campuses all over the country? Ask Jeremy Doan about his internship with Baltimore-based Under Armour. “I was fortunate enough to be on a team that really understood the idea of a student internship and allowed me to be involved with projects.” Jeremy’s transformative internship started through the MICA Career Center and ultimately led to his full-time job with the iconic sports clothing brand.
During his internship, he managed merchandise layouts for delivery requests such as Dick Sporting Goods, Finishline, Footlocker, and others. He also designed men’s graphic apparel for outgoing deliveries, designed 15+ tees for sale in stores, and created brand identities and logo concepts for athletes like Jordan Spieth, Kent Bazemore, Steph Curry, and others. By being a part of a design team that highly valued interns, Jeremy was able to develop his skills and take a leading role on many projects.
Through his experience he learned how to be an effective team member, how to take constructive criticism and not be deterred by the iterative nature of the design process, and he developed an eager attitude that kept him engaged. What’s Jeremy’s advice for interns who want to get a job after graduation? “Always be willing to help and never say no. Show some curiosity and take the lead.”
Jeremy admits that balancing life as a full-time student and intern can be tough and suggests, “don’t stretch yourself too thin. Know your limits and boundaries and communicate with your teachers and managers.” He highlights strong, clear communication as key to his success. He looks forward to spending many more years in Baltimore continuing to work for Under Armour.
