Internship Responsibilities

The BMA’s Prints, Drawings & Photographs Department is seeking a Spring Intern to conduct checklist research for an upcoming exhibition, centered around the history of letter writing. The exhibition, which is the first major exhibition to explore the epistolary genre as both a visual art form and political tool, is scheduled to be on view at the BMA in the Fall of 2027 and will be accompanied by a multi-author catalog.

 

The Intern will assist with checklist development and drafting loan requests for works in a variety of media, including works on paper, time-based media, painting, sculpture, textiles, furniture, and decorative arts.

 

The Intern will conduct research to locate alternate versions/available loans for specific objects and artists, gather historical background material on artists, objects, and historical manufacturing processes, request research images, and procure translations of specific texts or archival documents.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Maintain checklists and track loan request statuses through established database systems
  • Conduct research (text, images, archives, etc.)
  • Procure translations
Qualifications

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: 

 

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Graduate Program
  • Recent graduate from an accredited program (within 5 years)
  • PhD candidate

  • Demonstrated research experience

Interns will work 12 hours per week, 2-3 days per week, for 10 weeks.

 

This position may work onsite, fully remotely, or on a hybrid schedule.

 

Selected candidates will be expected to work from March 24-May 30, 2025. If you require a specific number of hours or are planning to do this Internship for credit, please state your hourly requirements in your cover letter.

 

A unique schedule will be created with each selected candidate based on their availability.
