Internship Responsibilities
The Record Shelf Survey Assistant works with the Baltimore City Archives and Records Center.
- Conduct physical shelf surveys to verify box locations against the current inventory database.
- Identify and document discrepancies such as missing, mislabeled, or relocated boxes.
- Rehouse records as needed into appropriate record storage boxes or archival containers to ensure proper preservation.
- Assist with labeling, shelf organization, and maintaining accurate location tracking.
- Record updated information into spreadsheets or inventory management systems.
- Collaborate with Archives and Records Management staff to ensure safe and efficient handling of materials.
Qualifications
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to lift and move standard record storage boxes (up to 50 lbs) safely.
- Comfortable working in warehouse or storage environments, including tasks that involve working at heights and the safe use of ladders and work-assist vehicles.
Preferred Skills
Interest in archives, records management, history, or library science preferred. Familiarity with Excel or other data-entry tools is a plus.
